I really enjoyed reading this. It deeply resonates. Though I haven’t felt this way until 2 things became my reality: full-time work AND motherhood. As much as I want to embody the present conscious person I cultivated throughout my life, I’m exhausted, tapped out, and yes the doom scrolling/researching/reading/collecting of digital tid bits is enticing because it’s EASY… so much easier than spending time with the woman I still am somewhere inside. But feeling more and more inspired and capable of tuning back into her and into the now. Presence is powerful and in this world, radical. Keep writing, Elisa. 💝
Shadia, you're honestly someone I think who has such an awareness and intentionality in how you come across online and I think that will probably ebb into your journey through motherhood too. Thanks for sharing and encouraging me. Means a lot.
Building hobbies outside of screen time and creating real depth within your life is so challenging in such a busy world. When it comes to finally having some time to yourself, easy dopamine is just a click away which makes it feel impossible to truly invest in yourself.
It’s similar to how people (I’m definitely guilty of this) often opt for fast food because the alternative is having to spend a considerable amount of time thinking up a meal, prepping, cooking and cleaning.
Scrolling is an easily accessible way to get dopamine after a long day in contrast to finding the mental strength to do something creative or productive.
It feels paralysing and this piece put it into words so perfectly!
The dopamine high is such a real thing. The fast food analogy is perfect. (Also I just am not a great cook- and feeding a family of 6- oh boy) Sometimes it really feels like a sisyphus moment going against screens- but I agree it leads to the real depth in one's life. Even today just spending the morning playing board games with my kiddos, and writing this brought much more light than my usual scroll time.
Absolutely agree, we’re fighting a never ending battle trying to avoid screen usage, in the age of today using technology is inevitable, the key is just maintaining a good balance.🧘🏼♀️
36- I understand. I think so often we assume we will find something to unlock what is, but I am learning more and more that we have to create something into existence. Maybe it won't be passion off the bat. I'm speaking to myself too. Writing and painting has started to feel really freeing for me, yet I still get plagued with distraction and self doubt.

I honestly feel like the 30s decade is really where the childhood wounds emerge in force.
